How We Spent our Fourth of July
Seconds from downtown Jacksonville, Florida is Springfield. Every July 4th, residents and friends host a "throwback baseball" game between the east and west sides of the neighborhood. Friendships are deep and rivalries fierce. Players suit up in turn of the century baseball attire and play ball the old fashioned way. The game starts at 4:00 pm and ends before the river fireworks begin.
The setting is ideal. Tall buildings and green space. It is the substance of urban core dreams. And yesterday it was our office.
Kids swam in the fountain and sprinklers ran freely for toddlers. There was pre-gaming and post gaming. Lots of talking and eating. If we had to work on a holiday, I pick this one.
